Title

Determinants of Information Overload and the State of Corporate Disclosure by Japanese Firms

Bibliography Type

Joint Author

Summary

Corporate disclosure has expanded over time and is generally viewed as desirable because it mitigates information asymmetry between firms and investors. Yet financial statement users have limited processing capacity; when this limit is exceeded, information overload (IO) may arise and impair decision efficiency. This paper reviews determinants of IO identified in prior Western studies and considers whether similar issues arise in Japan and whether uniquely Japanese research questions exist.
