Approximately 800-900 years after the Persian Wars, a memorial to the dead of the Persian Wars was re-inscribed and re-erected in Megara, which participated in the war as a member of the Greek allies. Helladios, a priest, carried out the reconstruction project, and the monument was erected in the city centre, where it is thought to have originally been located. Using this monument as a starting point, the meaning and background of the commemoration in various forms in the Greek world long after the Persian Wars was discussed.
