This was an invited presentation by MELTA. This study states that a solution to enhance meta-cognition of bad performers may be providing them with good mentors. If teachers grasp their students’ ZPD, it is easy for them to co-work with the students by giving them appropriate tasks. Well-trained mentors are trying to build a trusting relationship with students and to understand the students’ ZPD. Then, they can offer proper scaffolding. In order to increase autonomous learners of English language learning, a systematic training for mentoring should be introduced.
