Summary

The space shuttle uses the laser radar in the relative approach to the international space station. The numerical information is displayed in the console. However, more graphical information should be displayed and some visual guidance should be introduced in order to achieve the precise approach. In contrast with the normal airplane, any space plane has more abilities of maneuver in the final approach and generally has more limitation of fuels for rotating the position of the nose vector and for shifting the relative position. The maneuvers in the final approach should be optimized, so that the visual guidance should indicate the prospects by those maneuvers. The relative position of the plane to the target station should be also displayed geographically. In this paper, I propose an improved visual guidance for docking the space station and evaluate the effectiveness of the guidance.
